The Affordable Art Fair will make its Houston debut Oct. 15-18 at the George R. Brown Convention Center.
The international event, which was held in Austin for the past two years, is expanding its presence in Texas.
Fair director Cori Teague said the city is more than just a new location.
“I can’t do it without Houston. It’s such a melting pot of so many different cultures and artists and communities,” she said.
Accessibility is central to the fair’s mission, Teague said, with programming designed to welcome both seasoned collectors and newcomers.
To broaden its reach, the fair is intentionally marketing to non-collectors and creating events for a wide range of participants, she said.
“We have family hours available so you can bring your kids and you don’t need a babysitter to show up,” Teague said. “We have late-night events for new collectors and established collectors, and we have VIP night for all the established collectors.”
Teague said local involvement is important.
“I’ve been here for about 14 years, so it’s really important for me to have as many of the locals involved as possible,” she said.
The local scene is reflected in the fair’s lineup, which includes Houston galleries such as Koelsch Gallery, Off the Wall Gallery, Dimmitt Contemporary Art, and ELLIO Fine Art.
Works will be priced from $100 to $12,000, with organizers hoping to make collecting art more approachable for both first-time buyers and longtime collectors.
